The medal is a 6 pointed star with a circular centre, with a maximum width of 38mm and 50mm high from the bottom point of the star to the top of the eyelet. It has a ring suspender which passes through an eyelet formed above the uppermost point of the star.
This six-pointed star has a circular centre with the GRI/VI monogram, surmounted by the Royal crown, and inscribed ‘The Atlantic Star’.
The reverse of the medal is blank as with all World War II Campaign Medals.
The ribbon is 32mm wide, and is watered silk coloured blue, white and green. These colours symbolise service in the Atlantic Ocean, and in UK and North Russian waters.
