The medal is a 6 pointed star with a circular centre, with a maximum width of 19mm and 25mm high from the bottom point of the star to the top of the eyelet. It has a ring suspender which passes through an eyelet formed above the uppermost point of the star.
Obverse
This six-pointed star has a circular centre with the GRI/VI monogram, surmounted by the Royal crown, and inscribed ‘The Arctic Star’.
Reverse
The reverse of the medal is blank as with all World War II Campaign Medals.
Ribbon
The ribbon is 16mm wide. It has one white stripe in the middle with a black pinstrip band, red stripe, dark blue stripe and light blue stripe on either side of the central white stripe. The three colours represent the forces which were involved in the campaign, light blue for the Air Forces, dark blue for the Navy, red for the Merchant Navy, and the central white band, edged in black, represents the Arctic.
Packing
